I love this idea. As players explore the worlds around Angmar, they may find something more than fancy armor and weapons to customize their character with--they can discover secret emotes. This article is a complete list of built-in emotes and an announcement of the secret emotes you can /look for in the environment. This is an amazing idea. I hope to see more of this kind of innovation in MMORPGs. I'd also like to be able to learn...dare I say it...secret dances!

Sometime in the middle of February 2008, Turbine's going to roll out the next major free content addition for their virtual version of Middle-earth. Since launch last year the Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar has seen some significant changes, particularly with the addition of player housing in the Book 11 update. With Book 12, players can expect a few new dungeons in Angmar and one massive area located under the Ettenmoors, LOTRO's PvP zone. Some of the more notable changes are more cosmetic, however, which Turbine states is a response to player complaints about lack of customization.

This is got to be one of the coolest uses of the Googlemaps technology I've seen. Someone has taken the in-game maps for all the zones in LOTRO and put them together in a way that lets you zoom in and out using Googlemaps. Even if you aren't a LOTRO player, this is an extremely cool idea that you'll appreciate.

A new press release (posted in full after the break) sent to us from Turbine's PR company states that they have extended their license agreements with Tolkien Enterprises for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit until 2014, with the rights to claim them all the way up to 2017 if they so choose.
