Further, Valve confirmed that the original Left 4 Dead will be updated with its second batch of downloadable content, titled Crash Course, for the Xbox 360 and PC on September 29. Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition is currently slated to arrive in Japan on the PlayStation 3 this spring, under the title Biohazard 5: Alternate Edition. Notably, the game will support Sony's new EyeToy-compatible motion controller, which reports indicate will launch in March. As the biggest change from the original Resident Evil 5, Alternative Edition will feature game controls that make use of Sony's recently announced Motion controller. For series fans, another big change is the addition of a new episode featuring Chris and Jill. The episode will be based on the flashback scene from the original RE5, where the two characters infiltrate the Spencer estate in Europe.

EVE Online's volunteer program compromised
Submitted by Vegeta 1364 days ago on EVE Onlines volunteer program compromised
tagged as hot 1363 days ago
CCP Games, makers of EVE Online, announced that they've discovered wrongdoing on the part of an individual or individuals within their volunteer program, and are investigating the matter. The Volunteer Manager for EVE Online, CCP Ginger, explained the situation earlier today: "Last weekend external resources related to the Interstellar Services Department (ISD), EVE's volunteer program, were compromised which led to the theft of some volunteer program related data but also information about specific volunteers. As a result, we are being extra careful here, as this first and foremost pertains to the volunteer program and has no effect on our EVE Online operations or any customer data whatsoever." CCP Ginger stressed that information stolen came from "areas operated outside of CCP's infrastructure and is therefore not related to anyone's EVE player account data. Player billing information, personal information, and character/game information all remain completely secure and unaffected, as well as CCP corporate pathways and e-mail, Tranquility, databases, etc."

Assassin's Creed 2 PC delayed to 2010
Submitted by Vegeta 1364 days ago on Assassins Creed 2 PC delayed to 2010
tagged as hot 1364 days ago
Ubisoft has tweeted that the PC version of Assassin's Creed II has been delayed to 2010. Specifically, the game has been moved to the ever-so-crowded first quarter of 2010. According to the necessarily brief announcement, Ubisoft has decided to delay the PC version in order to secure "a bit more time for the dev team to deliver the best quality game." Considering Ubisoft's own Yves Guillemot stated that early 2010 is "looking pretty crazy" and warned that some Spring 2010 titles may be delayed again, this is all very amusing. Unless you've been waiting for the PC version of Assassin's Creed II, of course.

TGS 2009: Make room for 'PlayStation Room'
Submitted by Vegeta 1364 days ago on Gaming
tagged as hot 1364 days ago
Sony has announced a new PSP service for designing 3D avatars and "my room" spaces, along with blog, album, and group gathering and chat support. Um ... does this sound familiar to anyone? Yes, it looks like PlayStation Home is coming to PSP ... sort of. PlayStation Room (officially spelled with an infinity symbol in place of the "oo" in Room) will be added to PSP in an upcoming firmware update this winter and can be launched directly from the PlayStation Network section of the XMB. Just like in Home, PSP owners will be able to invite other PlayStation players into their rooms to "enjoy real time communication."

Left 4 Dead 2 Updated Hands-On Impressions
Submitted by Vegeta 1382 days ago on Left 4 Dead 2 Updated Hands-On Impressions
tagged as hot 1378 days ago
This article describes one of the new campaigns in Left 4 Dead 2 known as "Dark Carnival".Quote from Source " Dark Carnival is like an imaginative child’s worst nightmare manifested in video game form. The team of survivors must make their way through all manner of carnival-themed scenery, including striped tents, carousels, and, at one point, down a giant slippery slide. But don’t take that to mean Left 4 Dead 2 has gone cheery, because this fair is every bit as creepy and twisted as the series’ other environments. In fact, it might even be more creepy, thanks in large part to one of the new “uncommon common” zombies you’ll find. At certain points, you’ll run into zombies dressed like clowns. Clowns. They’re no more powerful than the other common infected, but their squeaky clown shoes will attract more zombies the longer they stay alive. At one point, we shot one clown zombie with a shotgun, and we presumed him to be dead after he hit the ground with a missing arm. That was our mistake--a moment later this clown slowly rose back up and shambled toward us just one arm and a gaping chunk removed from his torso. It was easily one of the more disturbing moments we’ve witnessed in either Left 4 Dead."

Sony Admits Being "Late" Adding Platform Support For Online Functionality
Submitted by Vegeta 1383 days ago on Gaming
tagged as hot 1379 days ago
As CVG reports, Sony Computer Entertainment’s president of worldwide studios, Shuhei Yoshida, recently told Edge Magazine that Sony is fully aware of the missteps it took when developing the PS3's online integration. “I think we were late to offer the platform-level support, to make the online functionality work at that level…We made the prior decision that you do not introduce the common centralized network names into every experience, so publishers made their own. That was fine at the start, but as more and more games have online functionality you need a unified approach.” Yoshida then concedes, "So Microsoft took that approach in the last generation, and maybe that's where people see the difference when they compare Xbox Live and PSN."

New faction battleships coming to EVE Online with Dominion expansion

tagged as hot 1380 days ago
While the devs will eventually want input from players on pirate faction ship changes on the Singularity test server, CCP is focusing on changes to existing Navy faction ships from the four empires, and is introducing new Tier 1 battleship variants that should arrive with Dominion. These new ships are the Armageddon Navy Issue, Scorpion Navy Issue, Dominix Navy Issue, and the Typhoon Fleet Issue. While CCP hasn't released images of the new faction battleships yet, Ytterbium says they will have new skins. All of these ships have certain enhancements over their predecessors or changes from the hulls they're based upon, and their stats are explained in detail in the EVE forum thread.

EA in legal shootout over 'Dillinger' machine guns
Submitted by Vegeta 1386 days ago on EA in legal shootout over Dillinger machine guns
tagged as hot 1384 days ago
EA is suing for the right to use the "Dillinger" name in association with weapons found in its Godfather series of games. GamePolitics reports the publisher filed suit in San Francisco federal court for the right to use the name after Dillinger LLC's legal team, which works for -- wait for it -- the grandson of the famous bank-robber's half-sister, contacted EA. Dillinger LLC apparently wants, according to EA, "millions of dollars for the game elements."

Disney to acquire Marvel for $4 billion
Submitted by Vegeta 1387 days ago on Gaming
tagged as hot 1386 days ago
The Walt Disney Company today announced an agreement with Marvel Entertainment to acquire the comic publisher and its stable of over 5,000 characters. The deal is valued at $4 billion in cash and Disney stock. "On the video games front, [Marvel has] some what we see as smart licensing agreements with some of the best video game manufacturers in the business," Disney president and CEO Bob Iger said. "And while we have been steadily moving in a vertically integrated direction, we don't rule out the possibility of a blend of licensed games, as well as self-produced and self-distributed. And what is nice about this is that as some of these deals near expiration, we have the luxury of at that time considering what is best for the company both from a financial perspective, from a quality perspective, and an exposure perspective."

New PS3 ads send up Sony leaks

It took about three years, but Sony finally has clever advertisements that say something about the PlayStation 3. Gone are the really stylish and really meaningless spots that once prompted a Sony employee to tell me, "I don't know what the hell I'm looking at." Playing on the PS3's power and capabilities is a new ad campaign with the tagline "It Only Does Everything". Here are two of the planned ads.
