Square Enix confirms development of new MMO.

From Gamasutra Interview with Square Enix Development Team: "As you might already know, members from the current FFXI team are working on a next generation MMO, but it still hasn't been decided whether that's going to be a game in the FF series, a continuation, or a totally new game. We are working on it, but it hasn't been decided that far yet. "

Guessing here: After the dreadful downfall of Fantasy Earth (A Japanese only MMO released by square) I really see this new MO hitting only Consoles. The interesting thing to observe is that Japan is not as PC-centric as the US or other countries. Not as many households own PCs, most people sue cell phones and mobile devices to communicate. This new MMO will most definitely hit next gen console sand not PCs. I am hoping it will stray away from the Party centric style of FFXI to something a bit more personal. It will be Japanese-based and of course there will not be hardcore PvP, it will rather instill its charisma with an amazing story line. Let us pray it hits the US.

Im all over this like butter on a hot summer day
3 years of FFXI and now im in the lotr but nothing ever beat the epic dramaticism and beuty of the environment that only sqaure can offer.

I wouldn't actually mind, if they did another FF MMORPG, maybe more fast action paced.

I never played FFXI, but it looked good. I think if they take a more original route (i.e. not FF series) they could rock some socks off. I'm looking forward to hearing more.
