Well, the last time I said "vote with your wallet" some yahoo told me I'd get more results by whining on message boards.

It's pretty clear that the game is a type of pornography, though. In this case, it's a form of snuff porn. If you made a game called "call girl" where you get to play a hooker, pick up tricks, do "things" with them extremely graphically, you know what I'm talking about...I mean with the variety and detail that makes for a truly good game...and a lot of explicit close-up sex complete with spraying fluids...you'd have a difficult time explaining that it's just a game, and not pornography. So why is it that when a game comes out that's essentially snuff porn (or war porn or street fighter porn, you know what you're playing), we can somehow get away with saying that it's not?

Now, I'm not saying we should ban porn. Oh dear me, no. But I have no problem with somewhat tighter restrictions on the distribution of pornographic materials beyond a certain level of graphicosity.

Bravo, Grimparrot. You are a credit to your profession.

Parents need education above all else, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees that. Thank you.

For what it's worth, perhaps I should have clarified that I spoke rhetorically. Rockstar makes some decent games along with the questionable. If CSM wanted more credibility in it's boycott, then they should target the company, not just a single product.

It'd be fair. That's all I'm saying. It's not like the CSM has much credibility to start with, so what does it matter anyway?

Yes: KIDS SHOULD NOT PLAY THESE GAMES.
No: This game shouldn't be boycotted.

I think the problem isn't the ratings system, just society not taking responsibility for bad parenting.

Keep your opinions to yourself. You don't like it? Don't fu*%ing buy it!

rockstar is the gayest company ever.....they made the grand theft auto games and those games have some really horrible stuff in it....not violence but u know.....rockstar sucks

I assure you that you have NOT seen worse things happen in real life than in manhunt 2. I left the demo booth I viewed a demonstration build for the wii in after a guy playing it jammed a metal bar through a guys throat and ripped his head off. With full motion controls. Nasty stuff. I knew it was going to be bad when they set the demo up on a closed booth with a rockstar employee manning the door. It was like walking into a peep show or something.

Not to mention even discounting the violence the game plays like crap.

be0wulfe is exactly right, vote with your wallet, and warn non gamer parents. Thats what these boycotts are good for. I don't care if they make and sell the game, but there HAS to be an overhaul of the whole rating system so it has some meaning.

The ratings system is hopelessly farked when Halo 3 and Manhunt 2 get the same rating. Parents see their kids playing Halo 3, kid tells mom i want this game, see its got the same rating as Halo, you don't mind that right? Mom buys kid game.

Not in my store. My employees are instructed to let parents know before they buy their kid a M rated game exactly what they are getting into so they can make an informed choice for their families. I have no problem selling Manhunt 2 to people who like that sort of thing, but I'm going to make darn sure they know what they are buying.

Well who cares, its the game developers idea of a game.

Where i live i have seen worse things happen than a gorey video game, it's only a game after all.... if you cant see past the fact it's all animated pixels and a generated image well then you shouldn't be playing them in my opinion.

Stick to your types of games and let others buy what they want, i am in no way violent in real life however i do play violent video games for a laugh if i didnt i might be inclined to turn to real life violence.

Like 'em, Hate 'em, or don't care about 'em, Rockstar is laughing all the way to the bank.
Vote with your wallet, not your yap.

If you don't like the product - don't buy it, simple as that.
Cries for boycott is an attempt to force the decision upon other people. That used to be a big point during cold war era, but it seems the free world is becoming what it used to fight against

(originally posted at linked site)

I wasn’t even going to get the game in the first place. I don’t buy worthless dreck like this. Torture for the sake of torture isn’t art, but abomination.

It is hard to defend my stance, seeing I play other games where killing for sport is expected. But the kicker is in the story. In the original, you play a serial killer, sprung from death row by a wealthy individual who wants to make snuff films. Guess who he picks as his star? See my point?

That’s the very thing that is disturbing about these titles, and ultimately where the controversy lies. Rockstar has a reputation of bringing these controversies to the general public, amid mixed critical reviews and political/social outrage.

If anything, a boycott of Rockstar’s products across the board should have been called for. This means all consumers regardless of age or ability, and all products regardless of content. It’s unfortunate to lump a game like their Table Tennis into this lot, but they’d have it coming. It would send a message to Rockstar that we have no interest in supporting their establishment if they continue to produce content that continues to horrify consumers.

Education would be the boycotter’s first and best tool. Once you accomplish the task of helping the common consumer how to identify a product by developer, then this can become effective. I know it’s a bit optimistic to assume that someone would go to all this trouble, but if you want to enact change, that would be the key.

The more CSM and other wanna-be censors cry, the more people will buy the game just to see what all the fuzz is about. It was like that with parental advisory labels on music album covers in the beginning, and this time will be no different. If they want to protect people against gross things, they would be better off watching what some senators do.

I'm not squeamish about games, but Manhunt 2 is pretty disgusting. I've seen it. So their assessment is correct in that regard. Im not so much in favor of a boycott, but making sure parents know how hard core this game is not a bad thing.
